Niger is located on the southern edge of the Sahara Desert. CNPC’s oil and gas development project in the country is one of the flagship projects of the Belt and Road energy cooperation. Building a laboratory that meets international standards in the heart of the desert, Dehui Scientific Instruments is facing a truly extreme, all-around challenge.

Environmental challenges are the toughest. In the Sahara, daytime summer temperatures can reach 45-50°C, with a day-night temperature difference of more than 20°C, and the air is full of sand and dust. Running precision analytical instruments in such conditions faces three major threats: high temperatures causing sensor drift, sand and dust contaminating optical components and sensors, and unstable voltage (power supplied by the camp generator). Dehui Scientific Instruments’ solution is to set up an independent precision air conditioning system and a positive-pressure dustproof system during lab design, and to install voltage stabilizers and UPS for all precision instruments at the front end.

The equipment setup revolves around the entry inspection and quality control of oilfield chemicals: measuring water content in crude oil, testing density and viscosity, and checking the basic physical and chemical indicators of oilfield chemicals. When choosing equipment, durability and resistance to environmental interference are prioritized.

For training and after-sales, considering the skill levels of local technicians in Niger, Dehui Scientific Instruments created a "simplified version" of SOPs—illustrating each test operation with diagrams and explanations in both Chinese and French, ensuring that local staff can complete routine tests even without remote support from Chinese engineers.
