Laboratory renovation and regular office renovation are two completely different technical systems—ordinary renovation teams don’t understand the environmental requirements of precision instruments, and instrument suppliers aren’t familiar with construction standards. The following ten key points are a 'life-saving checklist' summarized by Dehui Scientific Instruments after delivering dozens of laboratory projects over the past 13 years.
1. Precision instrument areas must have independent temperature control. DSC, DMA, and rheometers require a constant temperature environment of 23±2℃, and cannot share central air conditioning with office areas. It's recommended to have separate precision air conditioning.
2. Power supply should be independent and grounded. Precision instruments need their own circuit, with grounding resistance <4Ω. Absolutely no sharing circuits with large equipment.
3. Fume hood exhaust volume must be calculated. Make sure to calculate the make-up air, or the lab will become negatively pressurized.
4. Gas pipelines should be made of materials suitable for the gas type. Use 316L stainless steel for inert gases; combustible gases have special safety requirements.
5. Laboratory benches must be checked for load-bearing. Universal testing machines and large instruments require reinforced countertops.
6. Wastewater should be collected separately. Organic and inorganic waste liquids should be separated, and wastewater containing heavy metals collected independently.
7. Fire safety compliance. Laboratories should be equipped with appropriate fire extinguishers according to the types of chemicals used.
8. Anti-static flooring. Areas with precision electronic instruments and balances need to be anti-static.
9. Vibration control. DMA and balance areas should be far from elevator shafts and air compressor rooms.
10. Reserve expansion space. 20-30% of the lab’s usable area should be reserved for future equipment expansion.
