Mettler Toledo is a global leader in precision instruments and thermal analysis. Its TGA/DSC 3+ simultaneous thermal analyzer integrates thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) into a single instrument, providing an efficient analytical tool for new material development.
The Value of Simultaneous Thermal Analysis
Traditional thermal analysis requires testing on both TGA and DSC instruments separately, which can lead to sampling errors and differences in test conditions. Simultaneous thermal analysis (STA) collects mass and heat flow signals on the same furnace, under the same atmosphere, and with the same sample, providing a direct correlation between thermal effects and mass changes. It's particularly efficient for analyzing the thermal behavior of unknown materials—a single experiment can determine whether a weight loss stage is due to decomposition (with endo/exothermic reactions) or simple volatilization (only endothermic).
Key Features of the TGA/DSC 3+
It comes with a built-in microbalance with a resolution of 0.1 μg, capable of detecting extremely small mass changes. The DSC sensor with six thermocouples offers excellent heat flow sensitivity and baseline stability. The horizontal furnace design ensures uniform sample heating, with a maximum operating temperature of 1600°C. An automatic sampler with 34 positions can be configured for unattended batch testing.
Typical Applications
Quantitative analysis of polymer components, research on coal and biomass pyrolysis, determination of excipient content in pharmaceuticals, analysis of catalyst coking, and studies of ceramic sintering processes.
